About the Event

The Chainsaw Carving show will be Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Legion Park, in downtown Arlington. Twelve award-winning chainsaw carvers from the Northwest and beyond will carve eagles and other art for the festival. On Saturday, at 2:30 p.m., Nyal Thomas will delight the audience as he carves an ice sculpture that will be auctioned at the show auction at 3 p.m. along with many other wood carvings. Nyal Thomas, who has been carving for 36 years, has coordinated the show and has selected top artists to attend, including: Mark Colp, from Lake Port, California who has been carving 36 years and is a star on the television show Saw Dogs and one of the top cavers in U.S. Steve Backus, from Whidbey Island, Washington who has been carving 41 years and is featured in the Pemco Insurance TV commercial and the Alaska Airline commercial with Russell Wilson, and also featured on TV shows Framework and Saw Dogs. Thor, from Mossy Lake, Washington, who has carved in shows in England, Scotland, and Germany. Boaz Backus, from Medical Lake, Washington, who has been carving and an auctioneer for 30 years. He was part of the Alaska Airline commercial with Russell Wilson and was on the Framework television show.
