Volunteer with Arlington Police Department

2023 Citizen Police Academy

Update: Class is full and no longer taking registrations.

The Citizen’s Academy started September 13, 2023,  and met weekly for ten weeks and one Saturday. It is held on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers, at Arlington Police Station 110 E Third Street.

Chief Ventura said, "We are excited to hold a citizens academy for our community. This is a great opportunity to collaborate on a broader understanding of your police department."

For the safety of instructors, officers, and attendees, a criminal history check is conducted on all applicants prior to acceptance. Prior convictions may not necessarily disqualify an applicant but will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Some of the information you’ll learn about:

  • Policing with K-9s and drones
  • Police records
  • Ride along with an officer
  • Police volunteering
  • Firing range
  • Emergency vehicles
  • Operations (you drive a police car!)
