General Information Meetings (GIM)

A General Information Meeting (GIM) is an essential step in the development process. It allows homeowners, developers, business owners or anyone looking to do a project within the city limits of Arlington an opportunity to discuss their proposed projects with city staff before submitting a formal application.

This meeting is not a pre-application session, but rather an opportunity for city staff to provide you with insights into the processes, timelines, and preliminary fees related to land use, civil construction, building, and utility aspects. In addition, you will receive detailed feedback after the meeting on regulatory requirements, permitting processes, potential challenges, and any project specific items during the meeting related to your project to help guide you and your team through a successful project launch.

  • Meetings are held every Wednesday on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Meetings may be held in-person, virtually, or a combination of both if preferred.
  • Application and required information must be submitted by 4:00 PM the Wednesday prior to be considered for scheduling for the following Wednesday or next available date. Please contact one of our Permit Technicians should you have scheduling questions.
  • The following information is required for application submittal and prior to a meeting being scheduled:
    • Complete General Information Meeting Application
    • List of questions you may have regarding your project
    • Site Plan with the following information:
      • Lot size, location, dimensions
      • Building footprint on lot with scaled dimensions
      • Building's primary use and construction type
      • Parking lot location and dimensions
      • Wetlands, steep slopes, critical areas, easements, etc.
      • Accessible parking and accessible approaches from right-of-way
      • Ingress and egress location from street(s)
      • Existing structures or infrastructure on the site
      • Existing well or septic (if applicable)
  • To apply for a General Information Meeting please submit the above information via the online Citizen Portal.

We encourage anyone looking to do any type of project to take advantage of this opportunity. Thank you for considering Arlington as the location for your project and we look forward to helping you create a successful project!
