204th St NE / 74th Ave Intersection Improvement Project

Project Description

The City of Arlington is improving the intersection of 204th St NE and 74th St NE.  The proposed improvements include a revision of the roadway from a three way intersection to a four way intersection, installation of a traffic signal, installation of protected bus pull-outs, and installation of ADA compliant pedestrian crossing improvements (pedestrian crossing signals, ADA compliant curb ramps, and crosswalk striping).  Other improvements associated with this project include City of Arlington fiber optic communication installation and water utility improvements.

  • March 24, 2020 - Reid Middleton Consultants selected for design
  • April 23, 2020 - Draft 90% design
  • July 18, 2023 - Project construction awarded to Reece Construction Company.
  • May 24, 2024 - Construction to begin in June. 
  • June 11, 2024 - Construction is scheduled to begin July 18th. 
  • July 15, 2024 - Construction will begin construction on Monday, July 22nd. Work will include mobilization, clearing of the project area, and concrete demolition. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Please expect delays when driving in this area.
  • July 19, 2024 - Due to material delays the project will begin construction on Monday, July 28th. 
  • July 25, 2024 - The 204th St / 74th Ave Intersection Improvement project will begin construction on Monday, July 29th. Work will include mobilization, clearing of the project area, and concrete demolition. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Please expect delays when driving in this area.
  • August 2, 2024 - Construction began on Monday, July 29th. Work included mobilization, clearing of the project area, and concrete demolition. Next week scheduled work will continue with concrete demolition and work will begin on the installation of the water main along 204th St NE.   Traffic will be flagger controlled with single lane closures.   • August 16, 2024 - No work was completed the past two weeks. Next week work is scheduled to continue with concrete demolition, stormwater improvements, and work will begin on the installation of the water main along 204th St NE.  Traffic will be flagger controlled with single lane closures.   • August 23, 2024 - This week work on the 204th St / 74th Ave Intersection Improvement project included concrete demolition and stormwater improvements. Next week work is scheduled to continue with stormwater improvements and the installation of the water main along 204th St NE.  Traffic will be flagger controlled with single lane closures while work is being conducted on the water main installation within the roadway. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Please expect delays when driving in this area.
  • August 30, 2024 - Construction continued this week. Work included concrete demolition, stormwater improvements, and water line replacement. Next week work is scheduled to continue with the installation of the water main crossing 204th St, and electrical work. Traffic will be flagger controlled with single lane closures while work is being conducted on the water main installation within the roadway. Construction will occur Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Please expect delays when driving in this area.
  • September 13, 2024 - This week construction continued with water line work on the north side of 204th St, electrical work, and grading. Next week work is scheduled to continue with the installation of the water main and electrical on the south side of 204th St, and curb and gutter installation on the north side. Traffic will be flagger controlled with single lane closures and lane shifts while work is being conducted on the water main installation within the roadway. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Please expect delays when driving in this area.
  • September 20, 2024 - Construction continued this week with the installation of the curb and gutter on the north side, signal cabinet foundation, electrical work, and grading. Next week work is scheduled to continue with the installation of the water main and electrical on the south side of 204th St. Traffic will be flagger controlled with single lane closures and lane shifts while work is being conducted on the water main installation within the roadway. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Please expect delays when driving in this area. 
  • September 27, 2024 - Construction continued this week with the installation of the curb and gutter on the southeast corner, sidewalk grading, ADA ramp installation, and concrete work. Next week work is scheduled to continue with concrete work, the installation of the water main and electrical on the south side of 204th St., and electrical work across 74th Ave. Traffic will be flagger-controlled with single lane closures and lane shifts while work is being conducted within the roadway. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM. Please expect delays when driving in this area. 
  • October 4, 2024 - Construction continued this week the installation of the water main and electrical on the south side of 204th St., electrical work across 74th Ave., and concrete work on the northside. Next week work is scheduled to continue with concrete work on the southside, electrical wiring, and waterline work on the northside. Traffic will be flagger-controlled with single lane closures and lane shifts while work is being conducted within the roadway. Construction will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Please expect delays when driving in this area during the construction hours. 
  • October 11, 2024 - Construction continued with the installation of the water main on the north side of the project, electric work, directional drilling, and sidewalk demolition on the southeast corner. Next week work is scheduled to continue with preparation for the installation of the concrete sidewalk on the southeast corner and the northside. Drive access to the west of Starbucks and pedestrian access on the southeast corner will be limited when the concrete is poured for the needed cure time. If possible, please access and exit Starbucks using the east driveway. All concrete work is weather permitting. Construction is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Please expect lane shifts and delays when driving in this area during the construction hours. 
  • October 18, 2024 - Construction continued this week with water main testing, electrical work on the south side of the intersection, installation of the signal pole foundations on the south side, and preparation for sidewalk reconstruction. Next week work is scheduled to continue with water tie-ins (pending testing results), continued electrical work, and the installation of the concrete sidewalk on the southeast corner and the northside. Drive access on the west side of Starbucks and pedestrian access on the southeast corner will be limited when the concrete is poured. If possible, please access and exit Starbucks using the east driveway. All concrete work is weather permitting. Construction is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Please expect lane shifts and delays when driving in this area during the construction hours. 
  • October 25, 2024 -This week construction continued with water tie-ins, electrical work, and the installation of the concrete ADA ramps on the southeast corner and sidewalk on the northside. Next week work is scheduled to continue with sidewalk, electrical work, and signal pole installation. Drive access on the west side of Starbucks will be limited when the concrete sidewalk is poured. If possible, please enter and exit Starbucks using the east driveway. All concrete work is weather permitting. Construction is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.   • November 8, 2024 -This week construction continued with the final paving and electrical work. Next week work is scheduled to continue with electrical work and the installation of the signal arms. Construction is scheduled to occur Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Flaggers will be onsite to control traffic during the installation of the signal arms. Please expect lane shifts and delays when driving in this area during the construction hours. 
  • November 15, 2024 - This week construction continued with the installation of the signal arms and electrical work. Next week work is scheduled to continue with striping. This work is weather dependent.  Construction is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Flaggers will be onsite to control traffic. Please expect lane shifts and delays when driving in this area during the construction hours. 
  • November 27, 2024 - No work was completed this week due to the weather and PUD's schedule for the electrical connection. Next week no work is scheduled while the city awaits PUD to connect the power to the lighting signal system. Final striping will occur after the electrical work in completed.
  • December 6, 2024 - No work was completed this week due to PUD's schedule for the electrical connection. Next week no work is scheduled while the city awaits PUD to connect the power to the lighting signal system. Final striping will occur after the electrical work in completed.
  • April 18, 2025 - Work restarted this week with the installation of the final striping, and connection to PUD power. Next week work will include signal testing, signal head adjustments, and vehicle detection camera adjustments. Work will require lanes shifts, please expect short delays.
  • April 25, 2025 - Work restarted last week with the installation of the final striping, and connection to PUD power. This week work finished with signal testing, signal head and vehicle detection camera adjustments, along with the activation of the traffic signal. All work is now complete. Please be mindful of the traffic revisions when driving in this area.
