74th Ave Trail Project

Project Description

The City of Arlington is dedicated to developing and enhancing the safe and efficient movement of pedestrians and bicyclists throughout Arlington. This includes installing a multi-use pathway through job centers that connect to residential neighborhoods, bus routes, and shopping centers. The City has received a grant for the design and construction of a 12-foot wide trail along 74th Ave NE; extending the Arlington Valley Road Trail north to the intersection of 74th Ave and 204th St where trail users will have access to a Community Transit bus stop and retail center.

June 8, 2021 - Design awarded to Toole Design Group
August 8, 2023 - Design is complete and ready for construction in 2024.
November 7, 2024 - Bid Opening
March 7, 2025 - The City’s contractor will begin construction on the 74^th Ave Trail project Monday, March 10^th. The project will install a 12-foot-wide multiuse trail along the west side of 74^th Ave extending from the north end of Arlington Valley Road Trail (197^th St) north to the intersection of 74^th Ave and 204^th St where trail users will have access to Community Transit bus stops and retail centers. The project will also include trail and street lighting with benches and bicycle racks. Next week work is scheduled to occur Monday - Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Please expect lane shifts in this area during construction.
March 14, 2025 - Construction began on Monday, March 10^th. This week work included mobilization, and City of Arlington utility relocations. Next week work is scheduled to occur Monday - Thursday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Work will include clearing and grubbing, road excavation, and removal of obstructions. Please expect lane shifts in this area during construction.
March 21, 2025 - This week construction continued on the 74^th Ave Trail project. Work included clearing and grubbing, road excavation, and removal of obstructions. Next week work is scheduled to occur Monday - Thursday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Work will include roadway excavation, clearing and grubbing, and the installation of temporary fencing. Please expect lane shifts in this area during construction.
March 28, 2025 - Work continued this week with clearing and grubbing, road excavation, removal of obstructions, and the installation of temporary fencing. Next week work is scheduled to occur Monday - Thursday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Work will include continued clearing and grubbing, road excavation, and utility work. Please expect lane shifts in this area during construction.
April 4, 2025 - No work occurred this week due to an unexpected delay in material. At this time no work is scheduled for next week. This is subject to change.

May 9, 2025 - Work will resume beginning Monday, May 12. Construction is scheduled to occur Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Work will include asphalt removal, trenching, and electrical.
May 16, 2025 - Work continued this week Monday – Friday. Work included asphalt removal, trenching, road excavation, trail excavation, and electrical. Next week construction is scheduled to occur Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Work will include clearing and grubbing, trail excavation, placement of base course, continuing work on the trail lighting system, grading, and relocation of an existing fence.
May 23, 2025 - No work occurred this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project due to the weather. Next week construction is scheduled to occur Tuesday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Work will include clearing and grubbing, installation of lighting system bases, trail excavation, placement of base course, demolition of sidewalk and asphalt, and grading.
May 30 ,2025 - Work continued this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project Tuesday - Friday. Work included clearing and grubbing, electrical work, trail excavation, placement of base course, demolition of sidewalk and asphalt, and grading. Next week construction is scheduled to occur Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Work will include continued base course installation, electrical work, and concrete work.
June 6, 2025 - This week work continued on the 74^th Ave Trail project Monday- Friday. Work included electrical trenching, installation of base course, sewer installation, and concrete work. Next week construction is scheduled to occur Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Scheduled work includes continued sewer installation, clearing and grubbing, roadway excavation, concrete work, and continued base course installation.
June 13, 2025 - Work continued on the 74^th Ave Trail project this week Monday- Friday. Work included electrical trenching, installation of base course, and concrete work. Next week construction is scheduled to occur Monday-Wednesday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Scheduled work includes continued sewer line testing, continued base course installation, and concrete work.
June 23, 2025 - This week work continued on the 74^th Ave Trail project Monday- Wednesday. Work included continued sewer line testing, continued base course installation, concrete work (curbs, sidewalks and ADA ramps), trench patches, and paving of the trail. Next week construction is scheduled to occur Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Scheduled work includes concrete work at the wayside area and landscaping.
June 27, 2025 - Work continued this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project Tuesday- Wednesday. Work included grading for planter strips. Beginning next week construction will be suspended until the arrival of the lighting system.
July 3, 2025 - No work occurred this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project as the contractor awaits the arrival of the lighting system. Work is scheduled to continue once this arrives. Currently there is no estimated delivery date.
July 23, 2025 - Minor construction occurred this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project with landscaping. Next week work is scheduled to continue Monday – Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Work will include landscaping, and concrete work.
August 15, 2025 - Minor construction continued this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project that included electrical work for the streetlights. Next week work will include streetlight pole base installation. Please expect periodic lane shifts in the southbound travel lane if driving in this area.
August 22, 2025 - Construction continued this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project. Work included streetlight pole base installation. Next week work will include final striping and continued streetlight pole base installation if not completed today, August 22^nd. October 10, 2025 - Landscaping began this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project. Next week work is scheduled to include additional landscaping and striping of the trail. Striping is weather dependent.
October 17, 2025 - Landscaping and trail striping was completed this week on the 74^th Ave Trail project. No work is scheduled until the handrails and the lighting system arrive. All roadway work is complete.
October 24, 2024 - No work is scheduled until the handrails and the lighting system arrive. All roadway work is complete.
December 12, 2025 - The handrails are scheduled to be installed next week. The lighting system is currently on schedule to arrive in February. All roadway work is complete.
