SR 531 Widening Project
Project Description
This two-year (construction)corridor improvement project was scheduled to start construction in 2023. However, the COVID-19 pandemic affected the project schedule.
(2024) Due to staffing shortages, WSDOT has hired HNTB Corporation, a large national consulting firm, to assist with bringing this project to 30% design level (includes NEPA and ROW). Once at 30% design, the project will be advertised as a design-build project.
This project will likely be constructed in phases by roundabouts and linking roadway segments (43rd to 51st, 51st to 59th, and 59th to 67th).
WSDOT plans to improve the two-mile stretch of highway between 43rd Avenue Northeast and 67th Avenue Northeast.
The project will include congestion and safety improvements at four intersections, safer access to the highway from businesses and improved access for people who walk, ride bicycles, use the bus or need Americans with Disability Act accommodations.
